Volunteer Coaches Needed

All of these programs (with the exception of our Youth Basketball Program) rely on the help of parents to volunteer as coaches. Parents may indicate on the registration form if they would be willing to coach (parents would only be assigned to their own child’s team). If a team does not have a coach, everyone on that team will receive a letter asking for help. Hopefully one or more parents will volunteer, or, unfortunately, the team will be dissolved and registration fees refunded. Coaches must pass a criminal background check.

Concussion Information

A new Michigan Law went into effect on June 30, 2013 called “Heads Up Concussion”. This new concussion law requires us to provide educational material on concussions to all parents, coaches and athletes. The law also requires us to make sure that every parent has received the “Concussion Fact Sheet” and signed the “Policy Statement Sheet”.

In addition it’s required that every volunteer coach complete the “Concussion In Youth Sports Training”. This training can be done online at the following website:
www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/index.html

The training takes approximately 30 minutes. At the conclusion of the training you will have to print off your certificate and return it to the Parks and Recreation Office using the enclosed self addressed stamped envelope. This certificate will have your name printed on it and will be kept on file for the duration of your volunteer coaching with Delta Township. You only have to complete this training once.
