Citizen of the Year Award

This annual Delta Township award was established in 2005 to honor selected individual citizens whose extraordinary contributions go “above and beyond” to enhance the quality of life and general reputation of the township.  Its purpose is to encourage excellence in community stewardship and inspire acts of distinction.

Eligibility, Selection, and Recognition:

Eligibility for the annual Citizen of the Year Award will be based upon fulfilling all the following criteria:

• Is a verified past or present resident of Delta Township;
• Have history of exemplary citizenship;
• Is an individual, rather than a business (might include youth, seniors, veterans, volunteers, celebrities, war heroes, etc.); and,
• Must have given extraordinarily of private resources (time, talent, money, career, etc.) resulting in observable improvements in the character, rank, position, or achievement of Delta Township as a place to live, work, or play.

Not eligible for Citizen of the Year Award are the following:

• Current elected officials of Delta Township.
• Political candidates running for office in the current year.
• Past elected officials of Delta Township for four years immediately following completion of their last elected term.
• Selection Committee members during their period of service.

A volunteer selection panel will review all nominations and objectively decide the winner.  The award winner will be honored at a public ceremony and may be featured in the media.

Guidelines for Making Nominations:

All nominations must be submitted on the Citizen of the Year Nomination Form.  On the electronic form, the nominator (i.e., the person submitting the nomination) must answer all questions about the nominee (i.e., the person being nominated for the award).  There are no limits to the number of nominations submitted by a single nominator.  Nominations must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30 to be eligible.  The recipient will be announced on October 27, 2022 Community Awards Reception to be held at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West Hotel.  Nominations may be submitted via the online form or a printable version of the form is available at the link below.
