The Charter Township of Delta, Michigan (Pop. 33,148) is seeking a new Fire Chief to lead the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The Township is located on the west side of the Capital Area Region, bordered on the east by the City of Lansing and Lansing Township. The position oversees 46 full-time staff and approximately 10 part-time staff. The service area is 108 square miles and includes Delta Township and the Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority (Eagle and Watertown Townships), has three fire stations, and responds to nearly 6,000 calls annually.
The Fire Chief is appointed by and reports to the Township Manager. Delta Township is seeking resumes from highly motivated individuals with proven leadership skills who will project a strong, professional presence in appearance, actions, and demeanor in representing the Township. The chosen candidate will be a dynamic leader and team player with a comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of administering a large-scale fire and rescue operation including EMS and emergency operations management. Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Township Board, Township Manager and Department Directors, Township employees and Fire Department personnel, the Delta Community, and regional partners; and the ability to apply sound, innovative management to enhance a higher level of service for Delta residents. The Candidate must lead strategic level planning for the department, assess/evaluate organizational development and training needs, establish and communicate strategic direction consistent with the goals of the Township and available resources.
