Sharp Park was the second major park facility constructed.
The park opened July 2, 1976 with numerous Bicentennial
celebrations. The 57.8 acres of land was a donation from
the Forbes-Cohen Corporation, who were developers of the
Lansing Mall. The value of the property, $102.500, was matched
with $219,930 of Land and Water Conservation Funds, a $29,211
Recreation Bond Fund Grant and $88,219 of Township General
Funds. The total facility is estimated to cost slightly
less than $450,300.
On July 16, 1990, what is now known as Foster's Playground
was dedicated in memory of Bonnie Melton Foster. The playground
was donated by Mr. Arthur Foster. Sharp Park Shelter was
dedicated because the Foster family had owned and farmed
this land going back to the 1800s.
Spring 2005 - new hexagonal tables received for the shelter
Summer+ 2005 - old overgrown trails cleaned up, new stretch
of trail added
