DELTA TOWNSHIP – on Saturday, October 5 Delta Township held a Grand Opening event for the municipality’s newest park and sports complex, Mount Hope Park. The event was attended by nearly 2,000 people including residents, staff and numerous dignitaries from around the area. The day was kicked off by a ribbon-cutting and special performance of the National Anthem by the Delta Community Choir. Delta Township Supervisor Kenneth R. Fletcher welcomed attendees and thanked everyone involved in the planning and building process of the park.
The grand opening played host to numerous family-friendly events including hayrides, inflatables, pumpkin decorating and more. Additionally, several sports clinics hosted by area organizations were held throughout the day to showcase the versatility of the new fields.
“Mount Hope Park is a wonderful, new, mixed-use recreational facility that will not only expand our ever-growing sports programs but will provide our residents with better access to recreational opportunities,” said Supervisor Fletcher.
The first two phases of the park have been completed and include soccer fields, two baseball/softball fields, a fully accessible playground area, walking path, neighborhood connector path to Pointe West and Ashford Manor subdivisions, concession stand, restrooms, and a pavilion. The Township currently has grant applications to fund two additional ballfields and to extend the pathway around the entire park. To date, the park has received three DNR grants including a 2014 grant to purchase a 60-acre parcel for future expansion, a 2016 grant for park amenities, and a 2017 grant for the neighborhood connector pathway.
