Getting an accurate count is important because census numbers impact your daily life in many ways. Census data is often used to determine how much federal funding is allocated for important projects and services that benefit local communities. Local government officials use the census to ensure public safety, expand community needs and amenities and improve local neighborhoods. Additionally, businesses use census data in deciding where to build or expand their business, often creating local jobs. Lastly, census data can be used to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life, and consumer advocacy.
How Long Will it Take?
On average, it takes no more than 10 minutes to answer the questions on the census. Because getting an accurate count is so important, the process is designed to be fast, easy, and safe.
By April 1 every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census that will include detailed information on how to proceed. You will have three options for responding:
- By phone.
- By mail.
