Joseph E. Drolett
Township Supervisor

Joseph (Joe) Drolett has been involved in Delta Township government since 1972 serving two years as a Trustee and 28 years as Township Supervisor.


Mr. Drolett was born in Lansing , attended Sexton High School and received a BA from MSU. He served in the Marine Corp followed by 19 years working in the automobile business. He has owned and managed Carpet Man for 16 years and along with his wife Kathie has owned Drolett Travel for 24 years.     

Mr. Drolett's core governmental beliefs are for managed growth, protection of neighborhoods, targeted and controlled industrial tax base development, participation in the regional community, financial conservatism, professionalism at all levels, and employment of talented and caring people to service the citizens.     


In his elected capacity, Mr. Drolett is most proud of the following accomplishments: the finest emergency services in the area, outstanding parks and recreation facilities and programs, protection of neighborhoods from commercial business intrusion, addition to the Township Administration Building without debt, resurfacing of subdivision roads without additional taxation, regional approach to problem solving, securing of the new General Motors $1.2 billion facility and 4 tier-one suppliers, and promotion of industrial growth that maintains job and economic growth within our community.     


Joe and Kathie Drolett have been married 43 years and have four grown children. He enjoys golf and spending time with family at the lake.


Philip J. Chisholm

Philip (Phil) Chisholm attended Alma College and graduated with a major in Economics. He also completed the two-year General Motors Dealer Co-Operative Training program at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University).  Upon completion of that training, Phil moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he managed a retail boat business.  In 1967, he returned to Michigan and went to work for the Michigan Highway Department (now knows as the Michigan Department of Transportation).  He retired from MDOT as supervisor of the Public Involvement Unit.

In March of 1974 Mr. Chisholm was appointed to the Planning Commission and was elected as a Trustee in 1980. He has served Delta Township in that position until he was appointed Treasurer in 1999.He was elected Treasurer in 2000 and 2004.     


Mr. Chisholm serves the Township Board as Parliamentarian, serves on the Finance Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Public Safety Committee. He also represents the Township as a member of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. He is a past chair of that body. As a member of the Transportation Committee, Mr. Chisholm promoted the setting aside of funds for road construction and maintenance that has resulted in Delta Township having the best roads in central Michigan.  As a member of the Public Safety Committee, Phil has seen two new fire stations constructed and the growth in ambulance service from oen vehicle to four.  He is very proud of the excellent service given to Delta citizens.One of Mr. Chisholm's hobbies is World War II history.  He ahs a large collection of books on the subject and is especially proud of his collection of nearly forty WWII airplane models.     


In recent years he has hosted four exchange students and has kept in close contact with each of them.. They have come from Sweden , Slovakia , the Netherlands and Czech Republic . Phil has traveled to each of these countries several times to visits his "sons" and "grandsons."  He especially enjoyed attending a Swedish wedding and a university graduation in Prague, Czech Republic.


Janice Vedder

Beginning in 1981, Janice Vedder has served the Township for eight years on the Planning Commission, four years on the Zoning and Sign Board of Appeals, and in her current position as Township Clerk for nineteen years. As Delta's first Certified Municipal Clerk, Janice has implemented technological advancements for elections within the township and has invested multiple hours at the State Capital advocating election reform.


Ms. Vedder serves on the Utility and Environmental Committee, Election Committee, Finance Committee and Street Lighting Committee and a member of the Qualified Voter File Advisory Committee for the State of Michigan and Council of Election Officials.   She focuses her work efforts on supporting legislation to consolidate elections, records computerization, pedestrian pathways, river walks and sidewalks, and Delta's history preservation.


Some of Ms. Vedder's accomplishments include co-founder of the Capital Area Municipal Clerk's Association, appointments by three Secretaries of State to special committees on voter registration, and the Help America Vote Act. She received a national award for development of a bar coding system for absentee ballots.


Ms. Vedder is married and has two sons and one granddaughter. Her hobbies include downhill skiing, flower gardening and reading.

John Boles

John Boles served on the Delta Township Planning Commission for twelve years, the Zoning and Sign Board of Appeals for seventeen years and has served as a Township Trustee for seven years.


While on the Planning Commission, Mr. Boles strived to work together with both citizens and businesses to develop plans to protect neighborhoods and achieve managed growth for Delta Township .     


Mr. Boles serves on the Utility and Environmental Committee, the Election Committee, and is the Township Board representative on the Zoning and Sign Boards of Appeal. Mr. Boles also serves the Township as a representative to the Eaton County Public Transportation Authority. Mr. Boles was also the driving force behind the purchase and installation of "Welcome to Delta" signs and the Neighborhood Pride Awards.     


Mr. Boles received a B.A. in Business Administration from Northwood University in Midland , Michigan . He is retired after 34 years of service as a Corporate Account Manager from Consumers Energy. He is married with four adult daughters. He has served on the boards of the Humane Society, Big Brothers, and the Impression 5 Museum. Mr. Boles is also a Golden Heritage member of the NAACP.


Janice Cunningham

Ms. Cunningham and her husband moved to Delta Township in 1987. They chose Delta Township to raise their family because of its diversity, warmth and opportunity.     


Ms. Cunningham has always had a strong belief in community service and taking an active role in making our neighborhoods a great place to live. After moving to Delta, she became active in many local programs, volunteering her time and energies. Then, in 1996, she chose to run for and was elected to the Township Board.     


Ms. Cunningham serves on the Public Safety Committee, the Library Committee and the Transportation Committee. She also represents the Township as a member of the Eaton County Michigan Townships Association. She also represents the Township at numerous events.     


Ms. Cunningham is an attorney and a partner with the firms of Mallory, Cunningham, Lapka & Scott, P.C. Her practice focuses solely on family law. She has served on the Ingham County Bar Association Family Law Section, Board of Directors for 60+ Legal Clinic, Waverly Education Foundation and is a trained mediator for Eaton, Clinton and Ingham counties. She has taught both FamilyLaw and Law Office Management for a number of years at Thomas M. Cooley Law School as an Adjunct Professor.


Sherry Freeman

Ms. Freeman is a lifelong resident of Eaton County and a resident of Delta Township for many years. She and her husband have four children and four grandchildren. Ms. Freeman is the first Democrat to be elected to the Delta Township Board of Trustees.


As a Trustee, she serves on the Library Committee, Utility and Environmental Committee and the Election Committee.


In addition to elected public service, Ms. Freeman has worked on United Way campaigns and community projects such as "Day of Caring," "Walk for Warmth," and the Letter Carriers Food Drive . She participates in the DeltaSide Business Association as well as the Delta Government Relations Committee. Ms. Freeman owns and operates the Union Station Barber Shop in Delta Township . She has served as the vice president of the Lansing Barbers Association and is a member of the OPEIU, Local 512, and is a delegate to the Lansing Labor Council.


Dorothy E. Maxwell

For more than three decades, Dorothy E. Maxwell has worked to improve the quality of life in our community.

Ms. Maxwell has served as a Delta Township Planning Commissioner, a member of the Friends of the Delta Township Library, as a volunteer with the Waverly Community Schools. She has also served on the boards of the Metropolitan YMCA of Lansing, the Capital Area United Way , and the Lansing Chamber of Commerce.     


As a Trustee of Delta Township , Ms. Maxwell serves on the Public Safety Committee, the Transportation Committee and as the Township's representative on the Capital Area Rail Council.     


Ms. Maxwell, retired from the State of Michigan , has a master's degree in Public Administration and a bachelor's degree in Education. Currently she is owner and President of the Max Weingar Group, a management consulting firm focused on workforce competence. She has served as director on the boards of the National Association of Government Training Directors and ASTD (a global organization for workforce training and performance).     


Ms. Maxwell and her husband have two adult daughters. She enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends.
