PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY

The series of Presidential primary elections and caucuses is one of the first steps in the long, complex process of electing the President of the United States of America.  The primary elections are run by state and local governments in the states which do not have caucuses.  A state primary election usually determine swhich candidates for president will be supported by that state at the national convention of each political party.  Please br aware, in a Presidential primary election voters will be required to select a party preference in order to vote.  However, if a proposal is on the ballot and residents do not wish to declare a party preference, they may vote on the proposal only.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY IS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2007.

OTHER ELECTION INFORMATION

Elections are handled through the Delta Township's Clerk's Office.  In order to vote in any election in Michigan, you must be 18 years of age on or before Election Day, and you must be registered to vote 30 days prior to the election.  Offices classified under political elections would be as follows: congressman, governor, secretary of state, attorney general, house representative and county commissioners just to name a few.  Delta Township also conducts the Grand Ledge Public School Election.  If you would like information on the election process, please call the Clerk's office at 323-8500.

Consolidation of Elections

The Michigan Legislature passed Consolidation of Elections into law in 2003 & 2004.  The May 3, 2005 Annual School Election was the first election held under the new election law.  Consolidation of Elections turned the conduct of school elections over to the local municipalities within the school district boundaries, thereby relieving the school districts of the responsibility of conducting elections.  Consolidation of Elections also put into law four scheduled dates during the year in which elections can be held, all on Tuesdays in February, May, August, and November.  Eventually voters will have all elections held at one precinct location.  With the Consolidation of Elections law passed, it is hoped that voters will now become more familiar with the scheduled dates and where to go on election days and no voter will become disenfranchised.  If you have any questions regarding the Consolidation of Elections, please contact the Delta Township Clerk's Office at 517-323-8500.

Precinct Changes

Please be aware that school precinct locations have been changed.  As of January 1, 2008, all registered voters will be voting in their political precinct polling location for all elections.  A new Voter ID card will be sent to all registered voters in Nobember which will reflect this change.

New Polling Location

The township, in an effort to provide voter safety and to improve the working conditions for its election workers, moved precinct 81's polling location from the Millett fire station to the South Baptist Church on Snow Road.  Voters in precinct 81 ill be sent new Voter ID cards to reflect this change.
