Delta Township Non-Motorized Transportation Study
The purpose of the Non-motorized transportation study is to create a long term Vision Plan for Non-motorized transportation opportunities for the entire township. This will be accomplished by the use of an interactive public input process.
Public input will be obtained through public meetings, surveys and feedback from the Delta Township web site on plans developed during the study.
The routes identified will include bike lanes, shared use paths, sidewalks and will recommend roadway safety enhancements such as enhancement such as round-a-bouts at intersections or traffic islands for easier pedestrian mid-block crossings and potential lane conversions. In addition areas will be defined for further study such as round-a-bouts and typical intersection improvements. Non-motorized transportation is any mode of transportation other than a vehicle used for recreation or commuting. Non-motorized transportation includes walkers, joggers, bikes, roller bladders, strollers, and scooters.
What do you think about this study? What is your opinion about non-motorized transportation?

I think that the study is a wonderful idea! We need more walking paths and sidewalks in the area--it would help to attract new residents as well as serve the existing residents better. The parks in Eaton County are already great natural spaces--it can only help the county to improve and expand the natural spaces and places in the county. We have enough roads for automobiles!! We need to supplement and improve the walking areas in our community.

There definitely are not enough roads in Delta Township. It is very difficult to get around with all the traffic. Small stores are not allowed in neighborhoods like in the past so it makes it necessary to drive to just get milk or bread. What is the price tag of implementing this study and where will the money come from?
I strongly believe that we need to make it easier for people to get around our communities without having to depend on vehicles. We need sidewalks to/from the county parks and to/from central shopping areas especially on busy streets such as Creyts! The benefits for non-motorized transportation are far-reaching (and global).
More! More! More! What EVER happened to playing in back yards (preferrably not your neighbors), going to parks, etc? Show me a nice place to walk, rollerblade, etc., and I'll show you ten people who will not use them the way the tax payers paid for...then we get people who are going to walk or ride in the middle of the road...just because they can, will and will sue the pants off ya if you hit them..just because they can. With crime on the rise in this area...it's just more places for decent people to get hurt. But someone yells..unfair..and some other sucker weeps! I'd like my neighbor to be a homeowner..but that ain't going to happen and their house looks like crap!
My husband and I and others in our neighborhood in the Willow/Nixon area are so excited about this idea for more non-motorized paths, especially between the parks, like Fitzgerald and Sharp and Delta Mills. It sure will make it safer for those of us that like to run, walk, rollerblade and bike around our community for exercise and shopping without having to use our gas in our car. It will help encourage others to get out there and get some fresh air and exercise to make Delta Twp. a healthier place to live. It will also allow for more organized run/walk/biking events in the community. Thank you.
It doesn't make any difference what we say on this blog or at the public meetings, the board is doing whatever it wants anyway (frequently in secret negotiations)
