Delta Greenways Project

How can the township support walking and bicycle facilities for residents while placing the highest importance on personal property rights and privacy concerns raised by residents living along the river and creek areas?

Remove the river and creek projects from the plan entirely. Concentrate on other areas which directly affect foot traffic to and from public venues. Delta Township has plenty of parks and people don't need to walk the creeks or rivers for enjoyment.

Now that the Player's Club golf course is abandoned (per the focus area report), why not include that area in the Carrier Creek corridor plan? Or is/was this area subject to too much concern from the owner?

The law clearly protects the property rights of those owners along rivers or creeks that are navagable. While I would love to have a walkway that included a "river walk," the property owners rights are paramount. There are a lot of residential areas that need walkways. It would be prudent to focus our resources where they will be the most effective.

First the busy streets, then the recreational.

I second what the last respondent said...busy streets first.

None of the priority plans on the Delta web site to date (Feb 27, 2005) show different areas for parking for Hawk Meadows. What is the current plan for parking at Hawk Meadows Park?

Please review the Delta Trail's at www.deltami.gov , I have downloaded all of the planning documents.

How are we paying for these parks? What about funding the schools?

I do not mind Phase 1... but I rather have a property tax deduction then all the other phases planned.

It would be a mistake to remove the river and creek projects from the plan. Because these areas require the agreement of the property owners in the form of an easement, they would not be done unless all the residents approved. Although many of the current residents would not give easements, keeping these routes in the plan allows for the possibility that future residents may feel differently. "Walkable" communities are becoming a trend in many areas of the country - I would hate to see Delta Township get left behind.

It is a flat out "inaccuracy" that property owners near Carrier Creek have to give an easement for a recreational trail to be built there. The Carrier Creek bed and a good deal of land on either side of it already belongs to either Delta Township or the County Drain Commission and they can do with it what they will without permission from anyone else - so long as non one has time to mount an effective well-informed protest first. The township government folks pushing the Carrier Creek trail plan know this; they just don't want adjacent landowners to know it too. They keep promoting this phony homeowner easement requirement to lull affected property owners into thinking they will be in control of what will go on directly adjacent to their backyards, when in fact they will have no say at all. Pretty dispicable tactics.

Improving/increasing sidewalks is a major safety and convenience improvement. Keep your trails out of our neighborhoods.
