Creyts/Willow Intersection

The construction on the signalized intersection at Creyts Road and Willow Highway is almost complete. What do citizens think about this project?

I didn't hink they had a chance at getting the road open by Nov. 15. Will they make it?

I admit I was skeptical about the deadline and how the project would come together. However, I'm pleased with the overall project. I like the ability to see the intersection clearly and the traffic lights. Good job.

This intersection is enormous and has a blind curve built into it intentionally???!!! I can't imagine trying to navigate this in the crosswalks on foot before a car or truck comes after me... Whatever happened to the simpler, safer, less-expensive round-a-bout??? Does anyone else share this safety concern?

I think that this new intersection is a BIG improvement for the neighborhood--and drivers. It's much better with the lights and new signage. I am glad that it is in place. Now I just want some sidewalks for the "walkers" in the community. I definitely support this new intersection--it's great!

We agree that the round-about would have been a better option to this road problem, we believe that with the s-curve on the west side of the intersection is only going to cause accidents. The intersection is very unclear and not knowing where to go, it is slightly off one side. Once there is snow on the road it is very unclear where the left, right and center turn lanes are.
We are hoping that there will be no accidents that result from these problems, but we feel we should voice our opinions on this intersection.
Only thing we can see there will be some future accidents. It is unsafe to the driver, we hope a solution is made.
Thanks

The new intersection seems very well done to me. The roundabout was a silly idea. There will always be critics, but I think this was a reasonable solution to the problem. Thank You.

I feel sad for the property owners at the intersection. My son came home from Chicago, saw the thing and was slack jawed. Which tells me its grossly overdone. Its really only Delta Township you know. Also the lights should be IN the intersection and not on the far side of it.

The intersection is a huge improvement. Next, please ... sidewalks starting as far North as the park and South as Saginaw Hwy

In general, the intersection is better than what was there before. It does seem a little big and confusing at first compared with the rest of Willow, but the signage hanging from the traffic signal makes it much clearer. My biggest concern is that the intersection is MUCH too dark at night. Also, it does look difficult for pedestrians to maneuver.

What a great improvement to the Creyts/Willow intersection. I think the county did a great job.

I HATE this intersection! No matter what direction you approach it from, you get a red light. And sometimes you sit through more than one cycle. A roundabout would have been the better choice. At least with that you only slow down, not stop totally. This only encourages running the red lights. I avoid this intersection whenever possible now.

I really think that a round-a-bout would be better... but is there any resistance from the public offices towards this solution? If a round-about would be better economically and practically, why not just make one to see how it would fit the township? We've had more scoops about other stuff that worked out just fine, like the the whole deal with a Township Manager instead of a mayor or a Township Supervisor! Go Richard, you're doing a great job! I'm proud to be a citizen of Delta Township!

I think the new intersection is fantastic! I travel through it very frequently and have not seen any accidents as a result of the curve. The township has done a wonderful job keeping the snow cleared off so the lanes are easily visible. And "Bravo" for putting the lights on the far end of the intersection so that they are clearly visible for everyone! I only wish that all intersections in the Lansing area would be designed so well!
Thank you Delta Township. I feel safer as a result of this project!

I went through the intersection again today and almost went through a red light because I had to wait so long! What, exactly, was the argument against a roundabout!!!!!!!

I agree with the above writers input...

I HATE the new intersection. Did anyone who actually lives in the immediate area for several years get any input? Huge waste of tax payers money. The intersection is largely overdone for the amount of traffic. Now when on Willow, I frequently have to stop when I am the only vehicle in the entire intersection. Please improve the this intersection traffic light so that when there is no traffic on given road, the green light is skipped. Also a timer is needed for late evening through early mornings when very little/no traffic is in the area.

He is a thought; pay attention when driving read the signs that the township put up to assist drivers through the S-Curve.

Far as having to wait for the red lights where are you going that you can't wait another two minutes. Plan better!

It sounds like people need to take personal responibilty for their actions and stop complaining about the the new intersection, which is a lot better than what was there before.

The idea of a roundabout on Willow is stupid and not safe. I'm glad they didn't put one there. Have you been to the one in Meridian Twp.? The biggest complaints I have is that "S" curve and the lack of thought about the cars trying to go East or West on Willow, or North on Creyts from Piney Pt. That is an accident waiting to happen. There should have been at least 300' from the intersection of Webster and Piney Pt.to the light at Willow and Webster/Creyts. That could've been resolved if the Co. Road Commission would've taken the residents suggestions that attended the meeting at the Twp hall prior to construction. But they had already made up their minds what they were going to do there, and anyone not part of the Road Commission, was viewed as not smart enough to make alternative suggestions. Also why are we installing expensive lighted street signs instead of the green relective street signs that are perfectly adequate?

The Creyts/Willow Intersection is an unfortunate monument to the Road Commission. A modern roundabout was a low cost option that would have saved land, allowed steady movement of traffic and would have been far less hazzardous! The intersection as built required the purchase of a lot of land, a lot of expensive landscape changes, many traffic lights that were very expensive to buy, install and maintain. The instersection is too dark at night and when snow covered, it is anyone's guess where the correct lanes are. This "big city" intersection intimidates people approaching it "out in the country". Overall, this project was like using a cannon to kill a fly!

Exactly how is one to maneuver this intersection when on a bicyle? It may be beneficial to drivers, although the red lights seem way too long, but can be a death trap to a cyclist.

Putting a right turn lane from northbound Creyts to eastbound Willow would have accomplished the same thing for 1/10 the cost. Now everyone travelling Willow has to stop. Flashing after 7pm (yellow for Willow and red for Creyts) would certainly improve flow now that we have the monument in place.
