Summer Hours (April-October):

Tuesdays: 8 a.m.-2 p.m
Wednesdays: 2 p.m.-8 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Winter Hours (November-March):

Tuesdays: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Wednesdays: 2 p.m.-6 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

** The Recycling Center will be closed on the following days in 2010: May 29,
July 3, September 4, November 27, December 25, 2010 and January 1, 2011.

BATTERIES, CELL PHONES AND MERCURY THERMOMETERS

Collection bins for household batters and cell phones are available at the Delta Township Administration Building at 7710 W. Saginaw Highway. The recycling containers are located at the east entrance.  The Clerk’s Office also provides household mercury thermometer exchange. One new digital thermometer will be exchanged per household.  Outdoor, cooking or wall unit thermometers are not accepted.

ACCEPTABLE RECYCLING ITEMS

  • PLASTIC – #2 PE Milk Jugs and Colored Plastic Bottles (that do NOT contain a “dimple” on the bottom of the container but rather a seam, and clear #1 PETE.  The collection bin for plastics is a “mixed plastic collection.” All accepted plastics are in one bin.
  • PAPER – “Mixed residential” (includes: colored, white office, newspapers, magazines, catalogs & phone books).  Brown paper bags and corrugated cardboard are also accepted.
  • METALS Tin and aluminum cans (cleaned and flattened), as well as items mostly composed of metal including Freon-free appliances.
  • GLASS – clear and brown only. No drinking glasses, pyrex, window panes, dishes or light bulbs.
  • INK CARTRIDGES – printer, fax and copier cartridges. Deposit container is located on the south side of the building.
  •  POLYSTYRENE – More commonly known at Styrofoam, including egg cartons, meat trays, vegetable trays and large foam packing blocks (usually shaped to protect the item being shipped) are all acceptable.  Please Note:  NO PACKING “PEANUTS”.
  • CFL’S  (Compact Florescent Light bulbs) Any CFL bulbs may be properly disposed of at the recycling center. (Florescent light bulb tubes are NOT accepted – only CFL’s).
  • BICYCLES:  Accepted in any condition.  They are then refurbished and returned to the community by The Kids Repair program. Volunteers are needed to assist at the Kids Repair Program.  You may work with staff to teach kids bike repair, bike safety and bike maintenance.  You may help with supply inventories, grant writing, office support or public relation materials.  For more information or to register, call 517-755-4174.
  • WIRE & FENCING – must be bundled, no loose wire or fence will be accepted.
  • BOX BOARD RECYCLING GUIDELINES:  Box Board Collection Includes:  Cereal Boxes, Cracker Boxes, Shoe Boxes, Pasta Diner Boxes, Paper Egg Cartons, Brown Bags, Toilet Paper Tubes, Paper Towel Tubes, Shirt Boxes, Tissue Boxes and Gray Back Boxes.*These items must remain separated from other recyclables at the center and must not include corrugated cardboard.  NOT INCLUDED:  Wax Coated Boxes (meat & produce cases), Frozen Food Boxes, Pop or Beer Cases (6, 12, or 24 packs), Poster Board, Foil Lamination Boxes (i.e. dish water soap), Milk Cartons, Plastic from Tissue Boxes, Plastic Coated Boxes, Butter cartons/boxes that may be refrigerated.
  • COOKING OIL: Save cooking oil in clean container with lid and take to recycling center. Carefully  pour used cooking oil in container provided. Clean and reuse container for future trips to cooking oil collection maintained year around at recycling center.

FUN, REUSABLE SHOPPING BAGS

The Department of Resource Recovery knows how expensive some reusable shopping bags can cost.  Department of Resource Recovery offers tough bags that are not only affordable but are machine washable. The bags are made from recycled plastic bottle weave and are roomy enough to hold almost as much as two plastic bags full of groceries.  The price is $4.00 each or 4 for $14.00.  Contact Resource Recovery at 487.3417 Ext. 3686, or participate in a collection event to purchase your own reusable shopping bags.

LEFTOVER PAINT

Follow the “3 R’s…. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  Follow five steps below to improve the environment regarding paint supply.  1.  Buy the correct amount of paint for your project.  2.  Store paint properly to keep fresh.  3.  Use up leftover paint.  4.  Reuse or Recycle. 5.  Dispose of paint properly.

You can recycle leftover paint by donating paint to a community organization such as; theater group, church, school or non-profit organization in your community. 

EATON COUNTY RECYCLING PROGRAMS

Eaton County Department of Resource Recovery offers several different recycling opportunities to County residents, including but not limited to:

  • Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling – May 14, July 16 & September 17, 2010, appointment required.  Appointment schedules are opened eight weeks in advance of event. Call 485.3417 Ext 3686 for appointment.
  • Scrap tire collection – June 12, 2010 – 8a.m. – Noon – Eaton County Road Commission
  • Recycling Events to be scheduled in 2010 – Watch for more information:  Regional Book Recycling, Regional Electronic Recycling, Rain Barrel and Compost Bin sales and Landscape and Gardening Plastics.
