Elections
Elections are handled through the Delta Township’s Clerk’s Office. In order to vote in any election in Michigan, you must be 18 years of age on or before Election Day, and you must be registered to vote 30 days prior to the election. 
Offices classified under political elections would be as follows: congressman, governor, secretary of state, attorney general, house representative and county commissioners just to name a few. Delta Township also conducts the Grand Ledge Public School Election. If you would like information on the election process, please call the Clerk’s office at 517.323.8500.

Picture ID Requirement
Michigan voter’s who vote at the polls must comply with the requirement of showing picture identification. The most common sources of picture identification are your Michigan driver’s license or a Michigan ID card. The following forms of picture identification may also be used as long as they are current:
- Federal or state government-issued photo identification
- U.S. passport
- Military ID card with photo, Student ID card with photo from high school or an accredited institution of higher education
- Tribal ID card with photo.
Voters without picture identification: Michigan election law anticipates that not all voters will have picture identification. Voters who do not bring picture identification to the polls or do not possess picture identification can vote like any other voters by signing an affidavit.
Election Workers
Delta Township depends on residents to help in the election process. We are always looking for workers for our Precinct Polling Locations, Absent Voter Counting Board, and extra office staff. These are paid positions and anyone interested should contact the Delta Township Clerk’s Office at 323.8500.
Change of Address
If you move within a city or township, you must update your address. This can be handled by the Clerk’s Office or at a Secretary of State Branch office. Whenever you move to a new city or township or move within your current city or township you must update your voter registration or re-register to vote.
First-time Voter
If you have never voted in Michigan and register by mail, you must appear in person to vote in the first election in which you wish to participate. This requirement does not apply if (1) you personally hand deliver the mail-in registration form to your county, city or township clerk’s office instead of mailing the form (2) you are 60 years of age or more (3) you are disabled or (4) you are eligible to vote under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.
Absentee Voting Information
Residents voting Absentee Ballot can track their voting status by using A-vote! This service is provided to the residents of Delta Township so you may track your Absentee Ballot. To track your status online, click the link, or visit http://www.avotemi.com/Delta. When tracking ballot make sure and input address where ballot was sent. In most cases this will be residential address here in Delta Township but in some cases residents have requested ballot sent to alternative address, which is address to be used when tracking ballot. Keep in mind when tracking ballot that is returned by U.S. Post Office that adequate time is allowed for the Clerk’s Office to receive the ballot from Post Office and process. It takes approximately 24 – 48 hours to process and upload to internet after ballot has been received by U.S. Post Office.
Permanent Absent Voter List Request
If you are over 60, physically challenged, or frequently out of the community, you can be placed on our permanent absent voter list to vote by absentee ballot for future elections. Our permanent absent voters will automatically receive an application for all elections that are scheduled in Delta Township. However, the application for an absentee ballot must be completed and returned to Clerk’s Office for every election, as required by Michigan Election Law, before a ballot can be sent. Register to Vote and Vote on Election Day!
All citizens have a vote and choice as long as you’re “Registered to Vote”! Voter Registration can be handled through any Secretary of State’s Office in Michigan or at branch located in Delta Township at 5827 West Saginaw Hwy., or at the Clerk’s Office. Name and address changes must be made through the S.O.S. office, as it possibly will affects your driver’s license number. Michigan law also requires that your driver’s license and voter registration address be the same. The Voter Registration File or Qualified Voter File and the Driver’s License file are connected. If a change is made to your license it will also change your voter registration. Updates to your driver’s license or voter registration can be made at any Secretary of State office throughout Michigan.

The form needs to be filled out in its entirety, signed and mailed to the Delta Township Clerk’s Office at 7710 West Saginaw Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917. *THE VOTER REGISTRATION FORM CANNOT BE COMPLETED ON-LINE!* You must print the form, complete it in its entirety and either mail or deliver it to the Delta Township Clerk’s Office.
To vote, simply appear at your assigned polling place on Election Day. The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Your Voter Identification Card lists your precinct number and your assigned polling location. You will vote at the same precinct locations for all elections conducted in Delta Township. If you do not receive a Voter Identification Card within three weeks after registering, contact the Clerk’s Office regarding your voter registration status. You may also check your status on the Michigan Voter Information Center web site at www.michigan.gov/sos and click on the voter information center.
Qualified Voter File
Qualified Voter File if Michigan’s State Managed Voter Registration and Election Program. The Qualified Voter File is connected to the driver’s file through the Michigan Secretary of State, which means your driver’s license and voter registration are connected to the same file. When you update your driver’s license, your voter registration is also updated and sent electronically to the Clerk’s Office. The Delta Township Clerk’s Office will receive updates to our resident’s voter registration, such as name or address changes, from the Secretary of State’s Office electronically.

Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (“MOVE” Act)
The following Voters only qualify under this act: Active Uniformed Service and their Spouse and Dependents, Merchant Marines stationed in the United States or overseas, and Civilians residing or temporarily overseas.
The Move Act was signed into law in 2009 affording all active uniformed service, spouse, dependents, and merchant marine, stationed inside or outside the United States and civilians residing or temporarily located overseas the option of requesting an “electronic” absentee ballot to be emailed or faxed to voter. The voter must submit a FPCA form requesting ballot every calendar year (January 1 – December 31), and must be filled out in its entirety. The FPCA completed form can be e-mailed to Delta-tw@miqvf.org or fax to 517-323-8599. The FPCA form used for this request is available at our website at www.deltami.gov for your convenience.
